The Ninja is NOT a Katana on steroids. If you throw a Katana, do not expect the same kind of performance. The "wing" is very wide and for some throwers the grip will feel wrong. The disc tends to flip very easily on a good snap and will hold that turn for most of it's flight. It is better to think of the disc as a frisbee when throwing. For a beginner this will probably be a good disc. It will not hyzer out nearly as quickly as other discs, however if you are a starter player I would recommend a Sidewinder or an equivalent Discraft disc first. My biggest problem with this disc is that it is not PDGA approved and will never be. It is way to heavy for the diameter of the disc and when the beginner shows up to play at their first tournament they will either play the disc, not realizing it is not approved or will be upset that they cannot use a disc they have been playing with. In my opinion, the stiff plastic, the high weight and the extremely sharp edge make this dangerous in the hands of a beginner.
